A (H1N1) Flu

Malaysia has confirmed its first case of the A(H1N1) Flu in a student who returned back from U.S today. So, everyone do take extra precautions and take care of yourself. I really hope that this flu would be stop spreading as soon as possible. It has only affected a number of countires and has even caused death in Mexico and U.S.

I have found some info about this new virus and hence want to share with you all in my blog.

"H1N1 (referred to as “swine flu” previously) is a new influenza virus causing illness in people. This new virus was first detected in people in the United States in April 2009. Other countries, including Mexico and Canada, have reported people sick with this new virus. This virus is spreading from person-to-person, probably in much the same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses spread."

"The symptoms of this new H1N1 flu virus in people are similar to the symptoms of seasonal flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. A significant number of people who have been infected with this virus also have reported diarrhea and vomiting. Also, like seasonal flu, severe illnesses and death has occurred as a result of illness associated with this virus. "

"There is no vaccine available right now to protect against this new H1N1 virus. There are everyday actions that can help prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses like influenza."

Some of the actions/precautions that can and should be taken including:

1. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

2. Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.

3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.

4. Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

5. Stay home if you are sick for 7 days after your symptoms begin or until you have been symptom-free for 24 hours, whichever is longer. This is to keep from infecting others and spreading the virus further.

That are just some suggestions. Anyway, I am going to concentrate on my preparation for ACCA, Everyone, please take care!!!

Hi, Nicholas, for the record, Influenza A(H1N1) - formerly called "swine flu" - is well-documented as originating in Mexico, not the USA.

For more information and a daily update RSS feed, check the World Health Organization's (WHO) website: http://www.who.int/csr/disease/swineflu/en/index.html

and/or the USA's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/

For a well sourced overview of the situation, check Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_swine_flu_outbreak

Here are two quotes from Wikipedia; both sourced from WHO and CDC:

"The outbreak began in Mexico, where early reports indicated a surge of cases that had already killed at least 81 people by April 26, 2009."

"As of June 5, 2009, the virus had spread to more than 69 countries, however over 70% of reported deaths had taken place in Mexico. This led to speculation that Mexico may have been in the midst of an unrecognized epidemic for months prior to the current outbreak, thereby showing a fatality rate that was much higher than it would have been if earlier cases had been counted."
